SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 07, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ — In recent months there has been concerns over how commercial local TV says they are concern for the community they serve. But in practice its been about them hyping up ATSC 3.0 and not so much about local news about how the issues that affect your neighborhood specifically but how it affects President Trumps Approval ratings and the White House.
Then there are places that cover local stories that are a direct concern in your area but these are non profit foundations that step in to cover local news around the country. By donating or subscribing to your local news outlet directly, The readers will ensure that there is reliable news and less political propaganda hitting Mayoral, Councils, county executives on the municipal levels, State Legislatures, Congress and Governors this midterm elections season. The issue here is that you would not get this content on local TV given that in 2026 companies like Gray, Scripps, Sinclair and Nexstar have primarily focused on national content since the ownership cap from the FCC has lifted as of 2026. The argument goes that lifting the ownership cap will increase local news content but that is not how it goes in practice. In reality it favors national content because that is what brings in the profits for a commercial operation. Here are quotes from an op ed from Dak Dillon and the current state of the Media in 2026.
https://www.newscaststudio.com/2026/08/13/daks-take-local-news-isnt-actually-that-local/
“Here’s the uncomfortable question for any news director defending the format: why is a local station spending five minutes reading national headlines that every viewer already saw on their phone before the newscast even started? That segment made sense when a local affiliate was one of the only ways to find out what happened in Washington that day.
It doesn’t make sense anymore. Viewers have the national news at 5:30, a dozen news apps, cable, social feeds, more ways to get the same information than any local newsroom can compete with. Running a national package or reading a wire rundown isn’t a service to the audience in 2026. It’s dead air with a local anchor’s face on it.” Yes this is what local news is when a for profit media company has to please both chairman Carr of the FCC and investors to show they are making a profit at their media operations.
To truly get local news you would need to go to non-profit statewide news like Calmatters, regional places like Bay City News which is San Francisco Bay Area Wide news and Central Valley Journalism Collaborative which is San Joaquin Valley wide or neighborhoods specific news like Mission Local, San Francisco Public News, which is specific to the city, Open Vallejo and Vallejo sun for Solano county specific news. All of the articles here show the issues important on the local level and how it helps their specific communities.
If news deserts can exist in San Francisco of all places due to local tv stations spending more time on national issues because thats where the profit is in national news then consider how it affects suburbs and small towns in other parts of the country where representation is either little stories or not represented at all. Sharing your donation on social media platforms is also highly encouraged, as it raises awareness and inspires others to contribute.
By participating in this initiative, readers will ensure that democracy, free speech and reliable information prevails during times of uncertainty on the local levels.

About Vallejo Sun
At the Vallejo Sun, our mission is to shine a light on the workings of democracy, politics, and government in Solano County.
We believe that informed communities are better able to engage with their government and contribute to a healthier democracy. Research shows that communities without a strong print or digital news organization have lower voter participation and more corruption. But as media companies shrink around the country, in depth journalism is harder to come by.
The Vallejo Sun recognizes the critical role of journalism in combating misinformation and holding power to account. We aim to create a sustainable space where committed local journalists can practice their craft and keep their community informed.
We pledge to uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity, fairness, and inclusivity in our reporting. We strive to amplify the voices of all community members, particularly those who are historically marginalized or underrepresented, to ensure a robust exchange of ideas and perspectives. We are committed to rigorous fact-checking, transparent corrections, and ethical reporting practices to earn and maintain the trust of our readers.
